HP Pavillion Laptop

By JimKlallsoo ·
I have the strangest with a laptop which is driving me crazy.

The touchpad suddenly stopped working a little over a wek ago. I tried everything to re-install the touchpad driver Softwre but the touchpad failed to respond when touched. There were no error messages. laptop otherwise works ok. Works fine with a mouse.

I tried installing a new driver from the HP website to no avail. As a last resort i tried reinstallaing the Operating system with the original disks and when prompted to format i did so with WinNT.
At this point in the Operating system re-installation the touchpad suddenly starts working until the Operating system is fully installed and then the touchpad stops working again.

Anybody shed any light on why the touchpad would suddenly start working during a re-install of the Operating System but once the re-install is complete stop again showing the original symptoms?

Any assistance greatly appreciated

It could be a Software or Hardware Conflict

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to HP Pavillion Laptop

Have you tried setting the BIOS to the Defaults or Base Settings?

That's about all I can think of unless there is a Interment Hardware failure involved here. The Ribbon Cable from the Touch Pad to the M'Board could have cracked a few tracks or the Socket on the M'Board could have broken/Opened causing a Internment Connection.

Neither is a good explanation for the described symptoms but about all that is easily fixed.

Keypad Lock On

by Jacky Howe In reply to HP Pavillion Laptop

1 Caps Lock On. Caps Lock is active.
2 NumLockOn.Num Lock is active. (The Keypad Lock must also be on to use
the embedded keypad.)
3 Keypad Lock On. The embedded keypad is active (Fn+F. Num Lock must
also be for the numeric keys. Otherwise, cursor control is active (as marked on an
external keyboard).

Had the same issue a few years ago

by lisamichael416 In reply to HP Pavillion Laptop

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. I even called HP help (in Bangalor, India of all places) and they were at a loss. Their suggestion was to take it in for repair.
I avoid the touchpad anyway now. I just use a cordless optical mouse.
