HP Printer on Win ME

By cflarida ·
I'm haveing a problem getting a HP Deskjet printer running on an HP Pavilion 8240 running Win ME. It doesn't see the printer at all using the USB or the Parallel port. I've tryied unistalling it and re-installing it. It just won't see it. I've used the printer on a Win98 machine and it works fine. the 98 PC is almost the same model. if anyone knows any thing please share. Thanks.

What model printer?

Do you have the latest Me driver for the printer from HP?

Are the USB ports enabled, and drivers installed?
If so, they should show up in device manager.

For the parallel port, is the mode set to ECP/EPP?
If not, you need to enter BIOS settings, and change the port mode.

Without knowing what model printer, there is not much more to go on.

Hi and
Start in bios and make sure the usb and parrallel ports are enabled. Apain I know but must be done.
Make sure printer is on and plug the usb in while up and running after you have installed the drivers and made sure you have a printer showing in printers.
I hope this helps.

you might want to unplug and plug back a couple of times, and perhaps it realizes that the printer is there. happens sometimes to my USB hub, and AFAIK to one of M$ joysticks as well (actually, for the latter it was their OFFICIAL recommendation) LOL :-)
good luck,
