HP printer on Win95 PC

By bldsm ·
I have an HP 610c printer connected to a Win95 166Mhz PC. Both dinosaurs but until recently the printer worked fine. Now when I print something the printer starts flashing and the paper is drawn into the right place but then the error light comes on and the message is that the communication between the 2 devices is lost.

I removed the printer driver and reloaded an update. No different. I checked the cable is plugged in and OK. It's fine.

What can the problem be and how can I fix it.

Thanks
Bruce

You could try checking parallel port settings in BIOS, make sure that this is set to a bi-directional mode. Not sure how this might have changed though

Hi

As well as checking that the LPT1 port is properly enabled in the BIOS, I would also try using a different, preferably new cable.

Also, make sure you are using the latest driver available from HP's site.

Good luck

Firstly check your printer by taking self test of it by pressing paper button for some time without connecting to pc it will print printer self test .
if it works fine try printing from command prompt
dir >prn
if it does not print check your cable try differnt cable
