HP Probooks losing Start menu & search functions

I work for a large school district and we currently have several HP Probooks 450 G7 that are constantly losing their start menu/search indexing capabilities. We’ve tried several of the fixes out there (updating bios, run HP updates, restore health cmd, scan for issues, repair cmd, HP support assistant(won’t install) and many more. The only thing we’ve found that works is system reset or wiping the machines, however, the issue eventually returns. We *think* we’ve narrowed it down to a Cumulative update and will be blocking through AD. So, I guess while we have somewhat of a “fix”, is there anything easier we can try and anyone else have this model experiencing the same issues?

We’re up to about 20 of these laptops having this issue in the past 3 months or so and it’s getting frustrating for the users and us to have to keep redoing these machines.

We’ve also had consistent motherboard failures on this model as well. Just looking for some thoughts. These were produced during covid, so maybe the parts quality wasn’t great, idk!

That just happened on my new desktop and resolved itself before I could look into it. Looking at Windows Update it appears that this new desktop was still updating.

      1. You may create new issues like this by blocking updates.
      2. Since you manage a fleet of machines, you should always ask Microsoft directly.
