HP PSC has taken over my USB ports!

by shai.shahar . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

Looking for help if possible…I have an HP PSC 2350 connected to my [Windows XP] system via USB and it works..or worked …perfectly until last week…I bought an external HD 10GB “Store & Save” device as a backup for my PC. Basically I wanted to use it to transfer files to keep and work with but that I only need to access every so often.
Anyway..I plugged Store & Save into an available USB port and it worked. Then I SAFELY turned it off and unplugged it. That afternoon I had to print a file and since then I can no longer use the Store & Save or indeed even a Flash stick.
When I plug them in I hear the “new hardware recognized” clang but when I open Explorer I cannot find or read the drive [supposed to be G: drive] Only the HP PSC is there.
And when I open Control Panel all I can find is the USB hub controller which now calls itself a HP PSC 2355 device. [??? !!!]
I’ve tried unplugging, uninstalling, reconnecting. The only thing I get is a message telling me I may now disconnect my printer safely even when it is a Flsh stick or external drive that is connected.
How do I get my PC to recognize a flash stick as a flash stick, G;drive as G; drive and NOT an HP printer scanner?

I’ve also tried switching USB port connnections..and get the same result. It’s like HP took over all my USB controlled devices except my mouse.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank You
