hp recovery issues

By tsolder ·
Just to add to the current recovery issues...
I have 2 HP Pavilion pcs, running xpmc, one p4, one amd. 2 sets of self-made recovery disks, 11cds, 2dvds. Not sure from where...

1st pc died by itself, but I killed the 2nd one by installing pq boot magic-8. Needed to recover the 1st pc, Wanted to recover the 2nd.

Used easeus part mgr prog to investigate. 1st pc said boot part was not formatted, but did see the hidden recovery partition. Installed xph as test of hd and system in general, hoping to do a recovery later. Temp Xp ran fine, but recovery said couldn't read its partition.(using f10 recovery console)

Used my 2 recovery dvds as follows: Booted pc from dvd drive and recovery began automatically, saying it would rebuild the recovery partition. LOOOONG process, but sucessful so far.

Don't have recovery discs for 2nd pc. HP site sells them for 16.00 incl 5-7day mail, if needed. Now I REALLY NEED to get the recovery partition working!

2nd pc: took a chance and located bootold.ini and boot.ini files and swapped them around. Now system boots normally, without bm stinking it up, but do not see btmagic on the uninstall list (on hidden partition)so can't uninstall it!

easeus shows the recovery partition ok, but when I try to f10 recover or xp-install-disk recover, system says recovery partition can't be accessed. Same with HP pctools procedures.

So, Here's what I do know: recovery expects to see pristine, hidden, recovery partition... mine has added btmagic folder, so recovery bombs out.
The recovery files and folders are there, I just don't know what to do with them!

Help, anyone???

ps on a different pc xp system which uses dise for the recovery system, I used easeus to copy recovery part to a new hd and recovery worked fine from there. easeus is one great freebee program!
