HP Rewritable CD bad

By Jay Allen ·
I have just bought a new HP computer with a cd-rw. This drive will play certain games; however, games like Trophy Bass want even start to install. I have checked the drivers and drive resources but no clue of what the problem could be. Is there any known issues with cd-rw drives not working with certain cds, and what can be done to fix this? -- short of buying another computer.

This is not an answer but I request for more information. Which HP Product did you buy?
Pavilion, Brio, Vectra? Was the CD-Writer Standard or did you have to add it? Are you using and Creative Labs sound cards that might have installed their diskdetector utility? I had to disable it for one of my games. Also I have had to make a change in the performance of the CD, You can change that by right clicking 'My Computer' Go to Properties click, Click on the 'Performance' Tab, Then 'File System' then 'CD-Rom... Then change your Optimize pattern to "no read ahead". Send me the HP model # and the Drive model if you added it and I can research it more. I repair HP Computers.

The Bass Trophy program is a copy burned on another writer, right? The definition of a successful burn is that the CD is readable on the creation writer and ONE OTHER cd rom unit. CD writers function at different laser power levels when burning according to the CD used or at a default laser power level, again depending on the CD. You may need to reburn the CD. HP is a good burner...I swear by them. Bet the original CD works fine.

Well, the cd is original and not a burned copy...thanks for the info.

I've ran into a HP computer with a CD-RW in it and had very similar problems. They bought it from Cuircut City. She brought it in to get it fix a number of times and they never could fix it. After about two months of fighting either HP or CuircutCity ended up giving here a new PC.
