    Hpw to configure DNS Forwarder

    Locked

    by northwood ·

I am trying to configure a DNS Name server to forward queries to a Forwarder.

However, when I opened the DNS console and access the Forwarders TAB, the ADD button is grayed out and can not add IP addresses of Forwarders.

I did check mark the Enable Forwarders box, but the ADD button is still grayed out

Can anyone tell me why the ADD button is grayed Out?

During installation of AD the server verifies dns records so it can write SRv record to dns database,That is why ad needs dynamic dns server. You could manually write those records>i do not recall where Dc puts the the records it needs ,anyway your dc is the root server.that is why it is grayed out.you need to delete the root server and leave it at primary and you will allow forwarding you can do it two way
1)from command prompt(you will need support tools installes from 2000CD.Switch to dnscmd.exe
run dnscmd.exe /zonedelete *.* and root domain will be deleted.
      2) from dnsmgmt snap in open your zone.Their is a root with * .delete and you will be standard primary. hope this helps

      Use the command:
      dnscmd /ZoneDelete . /DsDel

Note The /DsDel switch is required only if the zone is integrated with Active Directory.
