httpd - apache - linux

Hey Guys....

Ive got a friend with a VPS and after checking over a few things...(slow speed, high CPU usage etc)

he has a massive amount of httpd processes running for example if i run "top"

thats some of the output.. ive not seen this before ive restarted httpd and had a look at the httpd.conf and compared it to one of mine and i cant see much wrong but i am no pro.

is this normal?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Linux - Centos 5.3
Apache - 2.0.63 with php etc.

Running the latest version of cpanel / whm

it's normal

to have many httpd processes for a system with a number of people accessing it via the internet.

the high cpu usage means the site script isn't as well designed as it could be.
most likely the sql queries are causing the script to have to manipulate large result sets to display the site content.
