Hub connection Problem

By richnosal ·
Ok i have 2 hubs 1-linksys 10/100 hub and 1- 3com 10/100 hub. I am tring to get at least one of these hubs connected to my router so that the users attached to the hub can get to the internet and e-mail, but the hub does not want to allow data through to the internet and e-mail even though I am connecting all of the wires the same way they are currently connected. Right now i Have a netgear 10mb hub where i want the new one. I get link lights and everything just no connection on workstation end. WHY?

Hub connection Problem

by edkeogh In reply to Hub connection Problem

Some 10/100 auto sensing hubs do not have an internal 10/100 switching facility. If your router port only operates at 10M it will connect to the autosensing hubs 10M internal segment. Most PC NICs will auto sense to 100M and connect to the internal 100M segment. Without an internal 10/100M switch in the hub, or an external 10?100M switch, the 100M users cannot communicate with the 10M router port.
Here is a test, fix one of the PC NIC cards to 10M only, with auto negotiation disabled. It should now connect to the autosense hub port at 10M and communicate successfully with the router.
