I hava small network of 50-60 nodes that interface with a larger network via a T1 line and Cisco router. My network is a Cat 5 star network with a fiber-optic backbone. Recently I tried to add a D-Link 8-port hub to a department (to keep from running additional Cat5 from the main hub. I could not get the network to interface with the hub. I tried a Siemens 8-port switch, also to no avail. Finally, I resorted to a 3Com 8-port hub I use in my office. The 3Com worked where the other 2 units would not.
Is there a quality issue (either internal programming or electronics) that allows the 3Com hub to be recognized where the D-Link and Siemens do not? In essence, are the latter 2 units built for smaller networks with fewer node communications, where the 3Com is built to handle larger communications activities?
