Hyperlink problem in Excel

By lucantsa ·
I'm trying to open a .pdf (or other file) using a Hyperlink in Excel 2003.

I'm using the following format:
=HYPERLINK("\\beryl\techwin\Backup.pdf", "Antoine")

If I just point to the directory, Windows Explorer will open and show me the tree structure of the directory. If I specify the file (like the example) I can see a window box that opens and immediately closes and the associated application and or file never appears.

The association for .pdf is set correctly.

assistance with the proper syntax?

Try this:
Go to Tools>Options
On the General tab remove the check from Ignore other applications.

Thanks, this check box was already unchecked. It turns out that if I delete the "File Type" referrence to .pdf and rebuild it, the hyperlink in Excel started to work. I'm not sure how I blew up this association, but this solved the problem.

can't open the hyperlink pdf file in MS excel 2010

by blue.latt In reply to Hyperlink problem in Exce ...

I have a problem to open the hyperlink pdf file (which is in shared folder as in network) in Excel 2010 after I installed updates for Internet explorer 9 from internet explorer 6.0. But, I want to use IE9 instead of using IE6 because it's more faster to download any files. When I open it, the error message appears like this;

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect of this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

Please help as soon as possible.

Thanks a lot.
