You should check the config.sys file to see if there is a driver loaded for your CD-ROM.

you should check the config.sys... no!
Do yourself a very big favor and go online and find an CD Device Driver (that's what it's called) Put it in the floppy drive, type A:/setup and then remove the disk and restart the machine.
-OR-
If you are running on a Win 95/98/ME system, stick in the boot disk and at the boot prompt select
*Start with CD-ROM support*
Either way is fine. (and better that checking the config.sys file)

I would like to add to a previous answer by saying that you will need to use a win98 boot floppy disk to boot with Cd ROM support because win95 boot disks did not typically come with drivers for CD support.
