    I can not access one particular web site

    Locked

    I CAN NOT access amazon.co.uk!

    I can access all other websites including amazon.com

    Have cleared all cookies, off line content etc, ran virus software, ad-aware etc, tried lowering all security settings, and a few other things. even rang amazon. The web site is fine my computer is fine all other internet access is fine.

    This just happened a fortnight ago before that I could access it easily now I just get a “The page cannot be displayed” message as if the web site does not exist.

    I know my way around a computer but nothing about programming etc. And have run out of ideas to try.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

      Clive… This worked for me: ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/ ) and goes automaticly to: ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/468294/026-0236257-7630073 ) You might have to let them load some cookies, & it might be IE dependent, but I don’t know for sure. -d

      I have cookies set to accept all. And NO amazon.co.uk address or link will get me to the site. I know what address to input!!! I am running IE.

      Check the host file and see if the web sites have been hijacked. If you have a router then check the setup. Also check the firewall also. Try to ping the web site you want to go to too. Phone your ISP and see if they have filtered them out.

      I can see that you have gone down the most obvious route and still haev no solution. Have you tried looking a little more simpler at the problem? try goign to your controll panel and the internet properties, go to the security tab and select restricted sites and ensure that Amazon has not been inadvertantly added!! if this is not the case then try adding the URL to your Trusted list, re-boot the machine and try again.

      This has worked for me in the past.

      In answer #1 I wasn’t sugesting that you didn’t know what the address where, I was only useing the addresses I listed so you could see exacted where I had been. If I had had a problem accessing them also. The point here is that there are not blocked. But, perhaps you are to them. (not meant personaly here) I don’t know where you are located in the world, but some whole regions are in fact, blocked by certain Internet ‘knots’. (for good reasons) If you just happen to be from an area that has been blocked or restricted, you may not have automatic access. One possible solution, however, is to contact the amazon.com home site administrator and ask them why you’re not allowed access. (I didn’t see that issue addressed) They will have an interest in your access and business.

      Have you tried flushing the DNS records? I’ve had a similar problem with one PC which would lose one site.

      Start -> Run -> cmd

      ipconfig /flushdns

      Hi Clive, Apologies this is not an answer… but a request for one. The exact same thing has happened to me, with the same site, amazon.co.uk (and amazon.com, actually). If you ever get a resolution, it would be great to hear about it! Many thanks, chris@hitching.net
