I can’t install my Operating System agai

One day I started my PC and when it turned on, an error message showed up. It said “No Operating System Present”. This appened several times, even when I turned off my PC. I thought that my PC had a virus. So I formated my hard disk, but when I tryed to install the operating system again, (WinMe, Win98, even Win 95), when the Scandisk runs says that there’s a problem with the amount of the Hard Disk and quits. This is the next error message that I have after that:

    run-time error R6001
    – null pointer assigment.
I already used fdisk to erease and crete my partitions again, but nothing appens. Please, HELP ME.

First, verify that you ran FDISK correctly. Do it over again and make sure that you enabled large disk support and that you created the partition large enough for your operating system.

Second, let the operating system installation procedure format the drive for you.

If you still get the errors, I’d say that you have a bad hard drive.

This does sound like your HD is about to kick the bucket. Before even fdisking and formatting, try to get a HD utility, like ex-drive for Maxtors or diskwizard for seagate, and scan the disk for bad sectors. A lot of bioses have this utility also.

Usually when I see the “no operating system present”, it usually comes down to something changing in the drive geometry. You may want to try to configure the HD in the bios to use something other then LBA. Also, you may want to try not setting the 32bit flag (if there is one)

When you’re ready to install, try using setup /is. Although this will skip the scandisk portion of setup, you may be able to run fine at that point.

      Good luck to you

Many times the HDD’s manufactorer’s disk utility program can access the whole hard drive while others cannot due to the firmware that is installed on these drives. Go to your HDD”s website and download their disk utility which will also allow you toinstall an OS (have your OS bootdisk ready. Win 98 bootdisk will allow you to fdisk and set up active and extended partions also but the manufactorer’s disk does an easier, better and quicker job.
