    I can’t my server on the Network…

    Locked

We just a added a file server on our NT network on our network. We are able to ping it by both name and IP but when we try to map a drive to it, it does not see it. We have both drives shared as c$ and D$ but still no avail. Help is definitely needed.

Try making a shared directory. Once you have done that also make sure you have the right subnet mask on the File Server.

once you have checked that. Try accessing it by typing “\\\“. The try mapping to the directory that you have just shared. Make sure that the user rights will be able to allow you to open and view it.

C$ and D$ are usually used by NT for Admin use. They are hidden shares and should not be used by normal users.

      Cheers ….

Just as I stated above the directories are already shared and it is on the correct subnet. We are able to ping it both ways but unable to see it through network properties or mapping a drive through explorer. I have administrative rights.

the $ behind the share name “c” and “d” are hidden – you will not be able to see them through network neighborhood.
you can use the net use command from the prompt or when you use the mapping command through explorer – in the path make sure you have \\servername\c$ – you will have to type this manually.
Also – what error do you get when you try to map the drive?
