I don’t want a routing loop

Hi All,

Question for the network gods.

In my network I have both regular network and a SCADA network separated by firewalls at each node site. All SCADA networks can see each other by traveling through the firewalls into the regular network and back through corresponding firewalls to other site SCADA networks. That being said:

Site A has a SCADA network that additionally has radio connectivity (RS232) to separate SCADA nodes beyond the reach of standard Ethernet.

Site B has T1 connectivity to the location where the radio (RS232) connects the SCADA equipment. This T1 is not being utilized for this, but for another project. The project leader insists that we keep the radio connectivity up and live.

Will this create a loop in my network (something I definitely DO NOT want). Part of me feels that it will since the data has two paths to travel. Part of me thinks this might not make a loop since the 2nd path is not TCP/IP, but RS232.

All answers graciously accepted. Thanks in advance!
