Log on under "Administrator", not your User Name (Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice at the Welcome screen to get to the standard Windows 2000 login screen or if your already in Windows, Ctrl-Alt-Delete once will bring you to Windows Security, just click the Log Off... button. At the login screen type in Administrator and the password...if you don't remember creating a password try leaving it blank). Now try installing the device.

If this doesn't work, try doing a System Restore (Start--Help and Support--click "Undo changes to our computer with System Restore"--make certain "Restore my computer to an earlier time: is selected--Next--select a date and time when your computer worked properly--follow the prompts to complete the restore including rebooting). You might have to try more than one Restore Point.

If these don't work, repost and we'll go to the next level.

Make sure your logged on as Administrator
go to Administrator tools click on local security policies then click on security options. Here there is a list of settings where you can make changes like allowing permission to install device drivers. Make sure you create a system restore point before making any changes. You can get help on using the security policies by clicking help while your in the security policies menu.
