I mean no in such that any idea will be a guess because of a lack of detail and I won’t have the PC on the test bench to look it over for common issues such as a displaced heatsink or other visual issues.

But I doubt it’s a driver or OS issue as this problem has largely been tracked down to heat, power supply and motherboard failures. Again without the PC being on my test bench I can’t pinpoint which area it might be.

ANOTHER ISSUE IS REPAIR COST VERSUS REPLACEMENT. I see these going for about 99USD on https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=dc8000+hp so my advice if you are in the USA is to buy another working model and move your HDD over into the working PC to avoid a big repair bill.

It could be caused by many things: corrupted power unit, software problems or typical viruses. So, more info is needed to resolve this issue.

One of the first thing I would do is check the event log. Also do the basic tests – Hard drive and ram. I think HP has a built in utility for that (push F2 at boot). If those pass, I’d look in C:Windows\Minidump and see if it’s creating a bluescreen dump. Is the computer gracefully rebooting or is it a hard shutdown/reboot? You should be able to tell from the event logs.
