I have trouble setting up two network ca

By meltvn ·
Hi

I have trouble setting up two network cards in one PC and then connecting it to two different workgroups.

I am running win98 on the computer and use a genius GF100TXRII RLT 10/100 network card. Both cards are the same.
1- The computer needs to connect to a Novell server which is connected on the one network card directly from that network Called workgroup with about 12 pc's.
2- The computer also needs to be on the local network which is a normal windows wourkgroup network with 6 computers. This network is known as workgoup as well. Windows network.

First the computer was only connected to the Novell network and it connects fine, there are no password restrictions on this network.
But now that I installed the second network car in the PC IT will not connect to the local network?? It only sees it's Novell network it can though be seen by the other computers on the local network but not accessed ( the shares ).

I do not know what to do now and would appreciate guidelines to such an installa

I'm not sure if the little workgroup needs to see the rest of the network (Novell) or not. On the 6 machine workgroup I would try installing NETBEUI only, on those machines as well as on your second NIC. Don't install any other protocols on the second NIC. Win98 shouldn't be used for routing even though, in theory, it's possible.

It sounds like you need to add the Client for Microsoft Networks, and the File and Printer Sharing Service in the Network applet in control panel. Be sure to enable file and printer sharing properties on the service. The NetBEUI protocol should alsobe added as mentioned earlier. That should fix it.

add client for microsoft networks and file and enable print sharing for microsoft networks. this will be enough as win98 can work with other windows machines in ipx/spx protocol itself which you might have already installed for your netware network.

In addition to adding client for microsoft networks and file and print share, make sure you have the same username and password for both networks.

I have done this before with only one nic. One nic can run multiple protocols. Setup both clients (netware/microsoft). Use client for microsoft as primary. Under ipx properties set your frame type (802.2 or 802.3). add netbeui. I think that is all you need. Also I find mapping helps.

One problem

The Novell network has got it's own IP addresses and subnet mask that connects to a nother server connected to a WAN?
I need only the one conputer on the local network and it must connect to a LAN printer with it's own IP addess?
