I MAC versus Windows

By jsdjbrettwarton ·
Good Morning to you all

I have a problem I can seem to get an answer on so can any out there assist me please.

Currently I run Windows 7 on Sony Computers which I find o.k. with no problems but people keep on trying to get me on to Apple Mac Note books

My problem is that with already 6 or 7 Windows Computers I wonder if I can copy what I have on Windows on to an Apple Mac such programmes as letters, e mails, address books & label files Dymo,i.e take home work from the office PC's and load the days work on to my Apple.

I would be obliged for any help from you guys out there

Thanks for any assistance you may give.

Windows apps only work on Windows, but

by seanferd In reply to I MAC versus Windows

you could install a retail copy of Windows in a virtual machine on a Mac to run the apps.

Some apps may have a native Mac version.

Your documents etc., you can transfer easily. You can use them, provided you have an application that opens the file format. For example, MS Office documents may have to be converted prior to transfer, or you would use a compatible application like OpenOffice.Org, or you would need to buy Office 2008 for Mac.

I have absolutely no idea what Dymo hardware or software you might be using, so you'll have to go to the Dymo site to see if there are drivers or applications written for Mac for your product(s). At least some of their stuff is Mac-compatible.

Why move from Windows at all?

by Choppit In reply to I MAC versus Windows

Actually, I can think of loads of reasons to move away from Windows, but from experience I can tell you that the grass is not greener on the other side (not the Mac side anyway). If windows does everything you need currently then why move to a Mac which will most likely do less for you?

Excellent question.

And one jsdjbrettwarton can not only consider personally, but also ask of these "people". I hope they have at least some valid answers.
