I need a water/ humidity sensor that can

I need help finding a system that will allow me to monitor the temperature and if there are any water leaks in my computer room. If there are any problems the system could page me. Found the APC product for doing this, however no external sensors are available. Currently the network is Novell and Netware.

I built a system for doing this using a home security system dialer. For the water sensor, I just used a piece of printed circuit board and cut a 1/32″ slot down the middle to insulate the two sides, soldered a wire to each side and attached that to the normally open dialer contacts. For better coverage, you can wire a bunch of them in parallel and if any one gets wet, it will activate the dialer.

For the temperature, I used an air- conditioning thermostat and wired it in parallel with thewater sensor leads so when the set temperature was reached, it would activate the dialer.

If you also want temperature logging, radioshack.com has inexpensive logging modules that will store quite a bit of temperature data and which can then be downloaded via the serial port.

If you want something a little more fashionable, a commercial MRO supplier like Grainger will have a wide variety of sensors you could use.

hope this provides some useful ideas….

I came across another potential answer today so I thought I would pass it on. A company called taltech makes a product called TCP/com that will take a serial data stream and package it for shipment across a network.
If that were combined with a data logging module, you could conceivably create a solution that way.

      Just another idea…
