I need help seeting up DNS

By drummergod12 ·
I am In the process of setting up a small windows 2000 network. we have verizon DSL and our DNS servers are being provided by verizon. I am trying to set up a domain for my office but i am not sure exactly how to do it. I have active directory set up and DHCP. I have also set up the domain but i need to know how to make my clients resolve Domain names that are not on my network. should they do it automatically. This is the first time that i am attempting this and i am the only Computer Tech in my company. If anyone could please help i would appreciate it.

What you can do is set up a Active Directory Forward and Reverse lookup zones for your company. This will provide name resolution internally. Go to Properties of the DNS server and look at the forwarding tab. You can use this to pass DNS queries out to your ISP DNS or to your proxy server if you have it configured to query the ISP DNS. Use the DHCP scope options to set up the DNS options for DHCP clients, that way anyone logging onto the network who gets an address from the DHCP server automatically gets configured with DNS. Use Nslookup command to test your name resolution. ex nslookup www.microsoft.com
