I’ve decided to get paid for what I do and a little advice would help me out. I have been working with computers since 1986 and I’ve gotten to be pretty good at it. I have an AAS in information technology and I’ve spent my ten grand for Microsoft training just like most of you. My dilemma is this. I have been helping people fix computer and networking problems for quite a while but the only payment I recieved was the experience of learning. I have heard horror stories about IT guys and gals helping someone with a problem and totally messing things up. (BSOD) Many of these folks have paid dearly for thier kindness, like getting sued for damages (Data Loss). I am a professional and know my limitations but I was wondering if ther could be a contract between me and the customer stating they have backed up thier data and I will be held harmless for data loss beyond my control. Are there any resources available beside hiring a lawyer to write something for me? I really want to move forward with my new business but I need protection. Can you help me?
