By galehickey2 ·
Question-I have a pc with winme and an extended d: drive. Can I put a second drive on my pc and install win 2000 without taking a chance on messing with the programs I have installed on my first drive? I know that the second drive will go to d: and the extended dive will be e:-thanks.

Installing the second drive

Configure the pins on the drive to set as Slave per the diagram on drive

Install the drive on Primary Controller in the second position on Primary Controller that is connected to the Master Drive, which should be configured as the Master

Boot the computer, enter BIOS setup and set drive configuration to AUTO

Using the Setup disk insert in floppy and proceed to run setup, you will be prompted for each disk, when it ask for the cd rom, you will then be promptedto select partition to install the operating system on,you then will see option to load on the second drive, select and press Enter

If you partition the new drive with just an extended dos partition, and no primary partition, it will become the e (f and g) drives, and leeve your existing c and d drives alone.

The only drive that will get a new assignment will be the CD and other removable drives.
