I/O error

By chuxiz ·
I receive an 'I/O error' when I try booting my laptop. This has prevented me from accessing very important files on my C hard drive. How can I solve this problem. Is that my hard disk cannot be accessed anymore? I need somebody's help urgently.

Please be more specific. What OS are you running(Win95,98,98me,2000 or XP)??. Also, are u able to get into Windows at all. If you can't try reseeding your hardware. I.E, take you RAM out and put in back it and pull the harddrive cable out and put inback it. Sometimes this is all that is needed.

Does your laptop have any peripherals (floppy, modem, etc) attached? Detach them and try again.

Also, get a flashlight and check the pins on your peripheral connections. If one has bent over and shorted against another, that could cause this error.

Be careful if you have to straighten out the pins. Do it with power off to the machine and bend them carefully back into the correct shape using needle-nose pliars.

Good luck.

O.J.

Check for IDE Controler conflicts in Device Manager. If you find one try updating the drivers for you Motherboard chipset.
