I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 and now my computer is S-L-O-W

By jimmy-jam ·
I am very sad.

I have a laptop which was running Ubuntu 8.04. It was running well and I really had no complaints. I read a lovely blog here on TR which told me that if I upgrade to 9.04 my computer would run faster. I like faster. I went through the hoops of upgrading to 8.10 then to 9.04. When I boot up and log into the system it is slow... really slow. Upon investigation I found that the Xorg process is killing my CPU. I did a little Googling and all the hits seemed to come back to a video driver problem. Only problem is the things they said to check were fine. I also find it a little hard to believe that there is a video driver problem in 9.04 that did not exist in 8.04. Can anybody help me figure this out?

How can you tell the speed, when you have to wait for the cd to spin up?

I wonder if you did an upgrade of 8.04 to 9.04 or a reinstall.
My upgrade went fine.
I had to reinstall the tracker package though as it stalled the system after upgraded.

I followed the recommended upgrade path of 8.04 -> 8.10 -> 9.04

Everything went fine. As far as the load it just didn't go so well when I tried to use it.
