IBM 300PL Freezes During Operation

by davethompson . Updated 24 years, 3 months ago

We have 5 IBM 300PL machines running Windows NT 4.0 that freeze during operation, and will often respond to a movement of the mouse or a keyboard stroke after some idle time, and resume operation like nothing happened. But this happens for no apparent reason. They are all about the same age (about 2 years old), have at least 64MB of memory (some have 128MB). They have differing amounts of hard disk free space–some a lot, some very little. On one machine we replaced the main board and the hard drive. We have run various diagnostics (CheckIt and IBM), all of which have turned up negative. Our vendor is at a loss, and we don’t think that replacing hard drives and main boards is the optimal solution for all 5 computers even though they are still under warranty. All in all, we can find no apparent hardware reason for this odd behavior. Has anyone else experienced this problem; does anyone have a suggestion for a fix; does anyone know how to elevate this problem directly to IBM?
