IBM Aptiva-- CD Drive

Computer suddenly can't read CD? Was working fine one minute won't read the next. Keeps giving error message of insert CD into drice g.
What's the problem and how do I fix it.

1st, what era aptiva. 2nd, Did you make an aptiva recovery floppy. 3rd, Older Aptivas had quirks so try another cd. 4th, ??? When was last time it was cleaned?? Post back by comment as more info is needed to solve this problem as you say cd is G: so do you have 4 Hard Drives or one that is Partitioned. cd should be at D if only one non partitioned HD.

Okay, Does your BIOS at post see your CD. To find out just hit the enter BIOS by on screen Instruction or delete or f2 or f10 key as your post screen at start up should tell you. Then look at system and see if it shows your cd along with your HD. Post back under comment and I am earmarking this one. fred

CD drive is drive G theres only one, it doesn't matter what cd I put in it can't read any of them. Error message of "g is not accessible the drive is not ready" appears if I run or browes the inserted cd.
