IBM ThinkPad 390E black screen

was trying to do an upgrade on this IBM i've wiped the harddrive of the windows 98 and when i went to reboot the screen is black now. so i can't see anything when i want to install XP.. any ideas on what i need to do...everything is still connected...any info is appreciated!

What did you use to wipe the hard drive with? Win98 boot floppy? Did you accidently leave the Win98 boot floppy in the drive? Can you see the logo screen when it starts? Do you see anything saying it can't find an operating system? Are you able to get to the BIOS to make sure it is booting from the CD first?

there is nothing on the screen

i just erased the harddrive and then it rebooted so when i shut it down after that there is nothing coming up anymore...and i don't know if i am to the BIOS as i cannot see anything on the screen...there is nothing to see...that is my problem...
