We have several people working on-site at a client’s office. We would like to have them connected to our company network via the dial-up access server. The client does not provide analog lines for modem use. We must use their digital phones with digital/analog convertors. FOr the past 2 years we have been using older IBM TP 600, Win95 laptops, connected to the digital lines via a digital/analog box/s (Targas and BLackBox). Everything worked OK. We purchased 2 new ThinkPad 600X Win 98 systems with internal 56K LucentWin modems and now cannot stay connected with either of the new system via the digital lines for more than 2 to 3 minutes. They keep dropping the connection after 2 to 3 minutes. However both systems work OK when connected to analog lines ie: the client fax lines or from home. We have been told there is not a call waiting feature on this digital phone system.
At this point we have tried 2 different new TP 600X systems, 2 different digital phone lines, 2 different converter boxes, installed the latest IBM TP modem drivers and have tried 2 different access servers into our company network. Still unable to get stable connection to access server. The original TP600 (win95)laptop works OK with any combination of digital phone line, converters or access servers. We have also tried an old modem on the new 600X and played with the transmit speed settings and was unable to stay connected.
This is likely a configuration issue related to WIn95/98 differences.
