IBM X60 "blackScreen" shutdown

By gordon.clarke ·
I am having problems with a number of IBM X60's which just shutdown without any logical reason. IBM are not interested in helping out with this problem. My users are using both 4 and 8 cell batteries, the only way they are able to restart the laptops is to remove the battery and wait sometimes for up to 30mins before the laptop will start. Has anyone had the same problem.?

could this be a problem with the battery getting to warm, I have read that IBM/Sony have recalled certain batteries because of overheating

if you plug out the battery.......

and it does not power off the mains, then it is definately the cooling system. If it does power up,its the battery. The reason for the wait is that it needs time to cool down. There is definately a pattern there
