ICS & games

By rbroome ·
I have a pc with TWO nics, one NIC has a tcp/ip of 192.168.0.1 for the home network,
the other has an ip assigned by my isp. This nic is connected to the cable modem.
the home nic is connected to the hub. The problem is when I try a networked gameeither as a host or trying to join a game, I cannot connect or the other playes cannot see this pc. If i try any other two pc's together, no problems. what can i do short of getting another pc to act as a comms server?

I don't know what OS you're using but you need to configure some kind of routing. You're local NIC needs to see your outbound NIC as a default gateway. Your outbound NIC then needs to see the ISPs gateway connection. You can use Proxy Server or NAT for address translation, but, this all depends on your OS. Since you're using ICS, if you're OS is Win98/95 you're SOL but you can do it with Win2K.

I've actually set up another win98se box as the server with ICS. Now everthing works ok apart from VNC from the outside.
Thanks for the help

Can you ping your internal card. If so is the proper protocol set. GAmers often use ipx/spx. Make sure all computers are using the same internal protocol.
If you can ping your internal nic, can you ping anyone on the network. If not, you are not getting past the hub. Transport

with ICS i can almost guarantee you won't be able to host a game but using tcp/ip you should be able to connect to games on the internet. Everything else works fine? file sharing and internet surfing works?
