If you are going to use Nt 4 then you will need to also use PRoxy server. NT2000 and 98 both come with Internet Connection sharing software.

If I understand your Q, you are trying to use ICS on your win98 machine to share an internet connection with a WinNT machine. Use the ICS wizard to set up the win98 machine. It has now become the DHCP server for your home network. Configure the WinNT machine by adding TCP-IP to the protocol stack, change the properties so that the winNT machine will get its IP address dynamically. You might need to install the DHCP manager on the winNT machine and set the IP address of the win98 machine. Check the documentation to be sure. hhp

If you’re NT Server is acting as a domain controller than you MUST make sure you have the IP address set to 192.168.0.2 (or higher) as DHCP can not be used on domain controller because they require static IPs. The IP address on the Win98 SECOND EDITION (ICS wasn’t available in 1st) MUST be 192.168.0.1. Make sure the modem is connected to the Win98 machine and configured to dial your ISP. Have the NT Workstation (and NT Server if it’s a member) use DHCP. When you set up the browser have it detect settings automatically and it should work. My biggest suggestion is to use Windows 2000 as it handles ICS MUCH better. In either case, if you run into problems follow the article found at this link (it helped me when I first started setting these up and I’ve now done around 50).
