ICS service automatically shutdown after x minutes

By ken_marq2001 ·
My Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) service stops after a few minutes. I have static IP on all the client. Internet is working on all the client and as with the host. The problem is the ICS service shuts off after a few minutes.
Any help will be appreciated.

Need more info...

What error events are being recorded to the System log when this occurs? To look for error events Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service, click System in the console tree of the Event Viewer snap-in.

I also have this problem

by hcbamsteh1337 In reply to Need more info...

I'm running ICS on a plain windows 2000 box.
My modem plugs into the first NIC and the 2nd NIC (192.168.0.1) plugs into the router that my computer connects to. I have my IP dynamically assigned.

Today after months of working perfectly the ICS service has started to stop of its own volition. Without actually timing it the service seems to go down 5 minutes after I reactivate it.

Its kinda weird since an ipconfig /release and /renew tells me that the DHCP server wasn't reachable, but manually setting the IP and pinging the DHCP server says its there.

I've tried everything I can think of, but I leave the services.msc up on my servers screen and while I'm browsing away it drops out.

I gave event viewer a go but its not showing any activity to do with ICS.

I'm a bit out of my depth here but I'm wondering if there is some weird timeout setting that I could edit in the registry somewhere that would stop it cutting out? Its a small problem but restarting the service every 5 minutes got old after 2 times
