IDE CD-RW and DVD-RW drives registered as SCSI drives – can’t write to drives

I’m picking up this problem repeatedly. When I install my system, the drives are registered as normal ide drives. Then all of a sudden I start getting an error message when I try writing to the drives. Nero starts writing and then stops with an error stating the SCSI process has been terminated and then, when I check my drives in device manager they are listed as SCSI drives. Windows won’t write to the drives either. Starts writing and then says the process has encountered an error. The disks are un-usable afterwards. The only way I’we been able to resolve this has been to re-install windows, but this is becoming really annoying. Anybody know what ios causing this and how to rectify/prevent the problem?

I’ve only seen this when someone is running a PCI IDE Card as windows sees it as a Bulk Storage Device and thinks that it’s a SCSI device.

If you are running any PCI to IDE cards place HDD’s on it and the CD/DVD RW’s on the secondary IDE Channel.

The only other possibility here is that if you have a White Box you have not loaded the M’Board Drivers and Windows is defaulting to what it thinks are the correct drivers but they break down when you attempt to burn anything. If that’s the case you’ll need to use the CD that came with the M’Board to install the correct drivers for the M’Board to prevent this from happening again.

I’ve been told that this sometimes happens on Nvidia Chip Set M’Boards for AMD CPU’s but I’ve never personally seen it happen so I’m not sure if that is correct.

I’ve had the problem. I think it was a problem with Nero and another software. A software that creates virtual drives like VMWare or Alcohol… It may also be a PCI card like TV card (pinnacle has lot of troubles with Nero).
I only needed to update Nero and the other software to solve the problem
