My daughter (budding computer tech) installed another hard drive on my older IBM Aptiva 2134
computer. My original HD is a Quantum 1.2 GB
drive. The new drive, a Maxtor 6.8GB drive installed as a slave on the
same cable as the older drive(master).
Because of Bios limitations (LBA is enabled)
and because the OS is early Windows 95, the Maxtor setup software used it’s own software as the bios and my new drive was partitioned as D,E,F,G.
Now in the Device Manager there is an ! in front of Primary IDE controller and secondary IDE controller. When we look at the resources tab of both these items, the indication is that they are working properly (no conflicts)
However under the properties of both the primary and IDE controllers there is a Code 10 Error shown.
That’s the first problem…
Why the ‘!’ and the code 10 error and how can I correct these problems?
Also, My CDROM, attached to the second IDE controller which had initially been designated as G drive doesn’t even appear in the Device Manager. We checked the Config file and no LAST Drive = statement present so..as my daughter said, the default ‘z’ should be in effect.
2nd Problem…Why doesn’t H drive (should be letter designation of my CDROM) show up?
and How can I acess my CDROM?
How do I solve these problems?
The computer tech at Maxtor, (since the Hard Drive is OK), shunted the problem back to me.
