I took the hard drive out of my old laptop when the motherboard died, and bought an IDE enclosure so I could retrieve all the data and to use the drive as a backup (external). When I plug it in via the Y cable it does not come up in my computer…or device manager. The instructions say you have to set the pins to “master” which involves a jumper shunt, which I don’t have. Do I really have to get one and set it and then install it somehow?
