IDE mode for CD-writer

I have a new Dell Optiplex 240 running Win2k. 2gig CPU with Intel 82801 chipset.

What is the correct IDE mode for a CD-writer in this setup?

In the windows device manager, the properties for the IDE channel connected to the Cd-writer shows the transfer mode as PIO. The Cd-writer is the only device connected to the secondary IDE channel.

It seems like the mode should be Ultra DMA (like the Primary channel which connects to the HDD).

Are the high speed ATA modes supported by Cd-writers or is that just reserved for HDD’s
