IDE vs. EIDE

By jiglover ·
Simple question: If I have a 5 year old system that was "state of the art" for about 5 minutes at the time which currently has a 6G IDE hard drive in it is it likely the system will support a 60G EIDE drive? Thanks.

Check your drive controller. If it supports Enhanced IDE, then yes the computer will support EIDE. If it does not, then you should be able to purchase an EIDE controller.

Hi,

The only way for us to answer for sure is if you let us know what brand and model your motherboard is.

Of course if you know that, then I guess you could look it up yourself on the manufacturer's website and its also likely to be in your manual... which is, no doubt, at the bottom of a box, at the bottom of a pile of boxes, in the attic by now.

Cheers,
Tim.
