IE 5.0 and Macromedia FlashPlayer

By kman52000 ·
When trying to open our department website (www.doe.state.la.us), there is a Macromedia FlashPlayer animation that displays using Netscape, but not with IE 5. IE launches Install on Demand, but this never seems to get anywhere and nothing downloads. Checking the box to not urn IoD stops this from happening, but the animation still does not dispaly. I am running SP 6a on this machine.

Unfortunately, it is not my decision which version of a software product is to be installed on the computers here at work. Plus, there are pages upon pages of known problems with 5.5.

If you can, reinstall Flash and go to the Windows Update for IE5.01 update.
I know you said you don't have a choice in software but this would be the place to start.

When trying to run the Flash 5.0 install, I get a dialog box asking which Netscape compatible browsers I want to use Flash with. Netscape 4.7 is listed and after I browse to find the IE directory, I get error messages about not being able to find the Netscape executable (which it is looking for in the IE directory that I've specified).

Try using the IE Tools/Windows Update and select "Flash" as part of the package for the IE 5.01 update.

I've already used Windows Update and Flash was not listed as one of the update options.

When you go to www.doe.state.la.us, IE tells you to you have to install FlashPlayer. When he asks your where to download the files from, click on the little arrow at the right of the location form and select Internet which should be the lowest. You should begin downloading the files and then it installs itself.

Hope it helps
