IE 5.5 illegal operation ?

by rawright In reply to IE 5.5 illegal operation ...

iexplore.exe has been merrily crashing PCs since its first release, and will probably continue to do so. It's known for not playing nice with others, especially older copies of itself. If you installed it on top of a previous version, you may findtwo versions listed in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. If so, first download a fresh copy of IE5.5 and save it to disk. Then uninstall the older version of Internet Explorer. You may want to uninstall both, if the shorter method doesn't work. Re-install the 5.5 release from the download. A lot of the troubles with IE seem to stem from .dll version conflicts, and in a mixed version environment I have seen huge problems. Surprisingly, a straight IE5.5 installation appears to be very stable - maybe they finally got it right:-)
