IE 5.5 SP2 is the lastest update for that version, the next update was the release of IE6,which has security patchecs updates that can be downloaded from Windows Updates.

The anti-virus update is not updated with IE,this would depend on the anti-virus software installed oon the system, checking manufacturer to check the web to see what updatte has been released for the current anti-virus software

I recommend that you subscribe to Microsoft technet bullitens.
They will notify you of security updates.

IE has no anti-virus capabilities. You need to install anti-virus software, and check for updates at least once a week.

To subscribe to tech net, follow these steps:

Compose an e-mail to microsoft_security-subscribe-request@announce.microsoft.com. The subject line and the message body are not used to process the subscription request, and can be anything you like.
Send the e-mail.
You'll receive a response, asking you to verify that you really want to subscribe. Compose a reply, and put "OK" in the message body. (Without the quotes). Send the reply
You'll receive two e-mails, one telling you that you've been added to the subscriber list, and the other with more information on the notification the service and its purpose. You'll receive security notifications whenever we send them.
What is the purpose of this Service?
This is a free e-mail notification service that Microsoft uses to send information to subscribers about the security of Microsoft products. Anyone can subscribe to the service, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

You can read security bulletins and other information about Microsoft product security on http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security.

You can cancel your subscription at any time by following these steps:

Compose an e-mail to microsoft_security-signoff-request@announce.microsoft.com. The subject line and the message body are not used to process the subscription request, and can be anything you like.
Send the e-mail.
You'll receive a response, asking you to verify that you really want to cancel your subscription. Compose a reply, and put "OK" in the message body. (Without the quotes). You'll receive an e-mail telling you that your name has been removed from the subscriber list.

i know I.E. 5.5 sp2 is totaly different from virus software. I also know that the windows, update site has the newest version for most microsft products. My question in a clearer sense was due to the number of security holes in I.E 5.5 that has leftif more prone to virus attacts. I have an up to date virus scanner and it picks up the viruses, i just need to know the list of new fixes released for IE.5.5 and i only found some info at the technet site. I.E.5.5 has new hotfixes but i need to document them and provide facts..
