IE 6 freezing computer

I am running IE 6 on Win. XP Pro.
I have been having a problem while opening links from pages or e-mail. when I click the link, it will come up, then freeze. When I check the task bar I always get the “not responding” error. This does not happen everytime, but I can see no pattern as to what it chooses to freeze. Separate windows might be a part of it. An example is If I open Mega Sports, then click the link for the previous winners and answers, it always freezes, and I can proceed no further.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
