IE 6.0

By bob.young ·
When I open IE 6.0 it will go to the home page with no problem. I can go to a link and go to the next page no problem, but when I try to go to the 3rd I can a page not found. This is even after updating and patching and reinstalling both OS and IE 6.0 sp1,Help

If you re-installed both the op system and Internet Explorer(IE) this should have cured the problem.

Norm in these type of cases i would suggest running ADWARE which is a spyware removal tool from http://www.lavasoft.com but as you have re-installed the Op system lets look for other options.

Questions
-----------
1 - What Op system are you using?
2 - Did you format the PC when you did a re-install or simply re-install leaving all old files on your system intact except for the Op System?
3 - Do you connect via BB or Dial up?
4 - Was the PC able to connect and browse Internet ok or did this problem just materilaise recently?
5 -Is the 3rd page you are accessing always the same page?
sorry had to ask just trying to cover all avenues

Now to try and resolve the issue.
This will depend largely upon your answers to the previous questions.

When you connect to the Net can you still download mail etc even though you cant view web pages.
What i need you to do is:
If connecting via BB
------------
Before opening IE click start & then run then type in ipconfig /all
Are you being assigned an IP address from your ISP?

If connecting via Dial up connection Click to open IE & logon using your ISP's username and password then click start & run then type in ipconfig /all
Are you being assigned an IP address?

Now browse the web and after looking at 2 different webpages you should be looking at a page which says page not found, again click start & run
Are you being assigned an IP address?

When you are getting blank page click start & then run then type in ping yahoo.com
If you get a response from this then you still have an active connecion to the Internet.

Therefore the problem would seem be associated with your browser.
If you are not being assigned an IP address it would seem as if the modem may be dropping the connection if connecting via dial up and u may be looking at a new modem about $10 or $15.
