IE 7 Freezes Opening PDF files

By mary ·
Specs: Windows Vista SP1 Internet Explorer 7 all security patches and updates installed.
Adobe Reader V9

When opening a link containing a PDF document in IE7, the document load completes and IE freezes. The only way out is to CTRL ALT DEL and end task on the process.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader. I am not running the browser in safe mode.I downloaded and installed Firefox 3. It didn't freeze it closed completely. I'm at a loss possibly you all can help.

Is it ALL pdf's, or just the same one?

Many pdf's are huge (because people don't know how to correctly make them).

Try to download the pdf, and then open it locally.

another thing to try, clear out your temp folder and cache.

Close ALL applications, go to the run and type %temp%

select all, and delete. reboot.

Then try to download the file and open it.

If the ratings are enabled in Internet Explorer, you will be unable to open pdf files. You need to disable the ratings in Internet Explorer. So, you would have to open Internet Explorer and click Options. Look for the Security tab there. Then click Disable Ratings. Then click OK. Now you would be able to open the pdf files.
