IE doesn't download properly

By Mark ·
When attempting to download a link in Internet Explorer 5.5, Instead of getting the dialog box that asks to open or save as, I get another brower window with a quicktime icon that goes to a broken quicktime icon after the download. I uninstalled quicktime and now the icon just changed to some other kind of media icon. I can right click the link and do a "save target as" and it works, but alot of sites, especially microsoft, have buttons that don't allow a right click with "save target as" option. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

IE doesn't download properly

I'm not sure what's wrong with your current browser. Don't even know if it's IE (older version) or Netscape, but either way, I've posted an fully installable version of IE 5.5 on my ftp site:

ftp://ftp.offroadgeek.com

Just download the file. It's a self extracting executable. Beware: it's 108mb, hope you have a high speed connection.

If that doesn't work for you, I've put two other executables on my ftp site. One is IE5Setup.exe and the other IE6Setup.exe.

You should be able toget IE out of one of those!

Good luck.

I already have IE5.5 installed. Reinstallation did not fix the problem. I think it has to do with filetype association, but I don't know the registry hack to fix it. I have IE6 CD to install, but I don't think that will fix it either. I think EXE files are maybe associated with media player or something. Thanks for the feedback though.
