IE History - roaming profiles

By Gigelul ·
Hi,
I applied a policy for users roaming profile. I have some problems with the size of the profiles.
The problems is:
I denied saving at logoff the History folder but some users want to use this facility.
I can't find (if exist!) a way to maintain local, this folder, like "Internet Temporary file"(move folder).
Any idea?
Thanks!

I believe these are controlled by

HKUSER\Software\Microsoft\windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\
HISTORY

registry key.

by default it is %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\History

Change this pointing to local drive.

BTW, why you don't use cached copies?

I don't have time right now to check your suggestion (in registry exists many places where you can find references about history and I need some time to verify), but I think that this is a solution.
Thanks.

Hi DAO251
About cached profile:
Sometime the users don't shutdown correct the workstation. The results are that when they logon again the system asks them about which profile will be used: local which is newer than roaming or...and many times theyreceive a blank new profile. Well, I tried to teach the users which are the correct answer but they don?t remember and then call me to recover wanted profile.

I will try the suggestion about History.

you can use the quota service so you can decide what is the size of the file you want the user to have and no problems with the size of the profiles and the other to maintain the folder local like inter temp file why don't you make a mandatory profile so they stay the way you want also no matter what the user does it won't change all the pend on what kind of profile you give to your users mandatory profiles or roaming profiles

WinNT4.0 don't have quota service. For profiles size, I use a policy which offer an easy maintenance. About mandatory profile: I don't want lock/unlock user's enviroment. All is fine except the IE HISTORY.

This article is about "Temporary Internet File" not about Internet Explorer HISTORY which is a seperate folder in profile. With Temporary Internet File I don't have any problem, it can be redirected to local HDD from IE options.
