I ran into this about a month ago. Neither Spybot Nor Ad-Aware had found the culprit. I had to manually look through the registry to find it. It was in a key marked HKEY_Local_Machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\? I forget but, I found some "friendly URLS" which seemed to be where the himepages pointerd to. I removed these and ran scans on each of them to find the directory of the program which called them.
But that is all I remember of that one, happy hunting.

As far as I can tell this guy has done some awsome work with browser hijacks and has developed some removal tools (CWShredder, and HijackThis) http://216.180.233.163/~merijn/index.html
It's best to go there and check it out yourself.

If your search pages have been redirected, re-establish the defaults:
a. Open the Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Change the Search Page value to:

http://home.microsoft.com/access/allinone.asp

and, if it exists, change the Search Bar value to:

http://search.msn.com/spbasic.htm

b. Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL

and change the default value to:

http://home.microsoft.com/access/autosearch.asp?p=%s

c. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search

Change the SearchAssistant value to:

http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm

and change the CustomizeSearch value to:

http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm

Hope it'll work (I quote those from geekgirls.com)

i followed all your instructions but still i have the same problem.
it looks that there is some other reg. valus hiding some where that causing this change beside the ones mentioned in your answers.
i did a search for this value but could not find any beside the one you mantioned.
the value i get is
