IE html file icon displayed instead

By engr_dishwasher ·
hi! I have Firefox v 1.5.0.3 installed as my default web browser in WinXP. I just wonder why every html file in my computer displays an IE html file icon.. however they do open with firefox everytime i open them. This just started suddenly.. I already tried setting firefox to open HTM/HTML files throught the 'folder options' at the control panel, hoping it would solve the prob, but it didn't. can anyone please help?? thanks a lot!...

open an explorer session
go to "tools" "folder Options"
"file Types" -- find "HTML" and "HTM" (select 1, then come back for the other).
select the "advanced" button
click "change Icon"

Yup, already tried that. The icon being displayed there is already the Firefox HTML/HTM icon but still it's not the one being displayed. I selected the ff icon again but after I clicked on 'OK', the screen just refreshed for a second but nothing happened..

..everytime i run Norton Windoctor it always shows the following after scanning:

Invalid ActiveX/COM Entries (1 problem)
The ActiveX/COM sections of your Windows Registry contain one or more invalid entries. This can cause documents to open improperly, applications not to run, or your computer to crash.

with details having the following:

Missing or Invalid ActiveX/COM SubKey Entry
The key, "CLSID\{00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\DefaultIcon." refers to a missing icon. "D:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates\0."

I have also tried uninstalling and installing again FF but it does not seem to be the solution..

I posted the problem at the forum at mozillazine.org but
someone told me that 'That folder is supposed to be empty, it is a 'staging folder' for downloading an update for Firefox - once Firefox is restarted to actually install the update the folder is empty again. Looks like Windoctor is looking for the wrong thing in the wrong place.'.
I guess he's right but I can't figure out why the problem persists.

I wish it would be that easy as changing the icon at the folder options..

I have the same problem, have you found a solution? the icon show instead of ff icon is generic windows application icon.. I think there is some problem with windows registry handling integration of FF into windows..
